This Short Video Intro With 7 Lights Health President Greg Ciola Helps Break Down Why Sulfur Is So Important In Our Diets
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why Aren’t We Getting Enough Sulfur In Our Diets?
There are two main reasons why so many people lack sulfur:
- We are undergoing a massive chemical assault on a broad variety of our foods from pesticides and chemical based fertilizers. These chemical compounds have an adverse effect on sulfur and other nutrients, both in the soil and in our bodies. It has been clinically proven through our own government’s research that the application of pesticides destroys beneficial soil microbes that are needed to pull minerals and nutrients from the soil into the plants. The same way that sulfur works as a delivery and transport mineral in our bodies to usher nutrition into our cells is the same thing it does in the soil. Sulfur hooks up with all of the nutritional elements in the ground and drives them from the dirt into the roots of the plants. The extensive application of pesticides and chemical based fertilizers have significantly interfered with this sulfur cycle. That means that our diets are devoid of a comprehensive range of minerals and nutrients, including organic sulfur, because modern farming practices have hindered this natural process from taking place correctly. In addition to that we are inundated with thousands of other chemicals in our water, air, cosmetics, household products, and from environmental pollution.
- Refined and processed foods contain almost no usable sulfur or minerals. Given the fact that the vast majority of people are eating far too many refined and processed foods that have had their nutritional components stripped out almost entirely, there is no possible way you can expect to receive sufficient sulfur or other essential minerals and nutrients to ward off disease from diet alone unless you take supplements. When talking about processed foods, we also need to include pasteurized foods too. Pasteurization cuts the MSM content by approximately 50 percent. To ensure you’re getting the most MSM from any food, it must be either raw or as minimally processed as possible, which is highly unlikely for the majority of people living today in America.
Why Should I Take Sulfur (MSM)?
Sulfur is one of the most important nutrients needed by the body that is lacking in a majority of our foods. The body does not store sulfur. It must be obtained from your diet on a consistent basis.
While the most common uses over the years have been for joint support, Sulfur's diverse range of benefits goes way beyond that. Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is used for:
- Allergies
- Joint Pain
- Stiff Joints
- Back Pain
- Arthritis
- Sore Muscles
- Exercise Recovery
- Muscle Soreness and Cramps
- Inflammation
- Detoxification
- Strengthening Skin, Hair, and Nails
- Heartburn
- Headaches
- Athletic Injuries
- Acne & Skin Related Problems
- Digestive Health
- Liver Support
- Soft & Brittle Bones
- Trauma
- And more!
Clinical observations have led us to believe that MSM can also work to:
- Reduce Swelling
- Soften Scar Tissue
- Increase Blood Flow in the Body
- Lessen muscle spasms
- Lessen pain in both acute and chronic cases
Why Has Sulfur Supplementation Become So Popular?
Sulfur is the sixth most abundant macro mineral in breast milk and the third most abundant mineral based on a percentage of total body weight. [i] While the dietary supplement market is saturated with thousands of different products claiming to promote better health, few can match what sulfur alone can do for alleviating so many different ailments in such a short period of time.
Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), also known as organic sulfur, has been researched and studied extensively for decades. Sulfur is present in over 150 different chemical compounds within the human body, making it the most valuable building mineral our bodies need. There are sulfur components in virtually every type of cell, so it’s extremely essential to ensure you are getting enough in your diet.
The sulfur-containing amino acids (SAAs) are methionine, cysteine, cystine, homocysteine, and taurine. Increases in serum sulfate may explain some of the therapeutic effects of MSM, DMSO, and glucosamine sulfate. Organic sulfur, as SAAs, can be used to increase synthesis of S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe), glutathione (GSH), taurine, and N-acetylcysteine (NAC). MSM may be effective for the treatment of allergy, pain syndromes, athletic injuries, and bladder disorders. Other sulfur compounds such as SAMe, dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO), taurine, glucosamine or chondroitin sulfate, and increased glutathione may also have clinical applications in the treatment of a number of conditions such as depression, fibromyalgia, arthritis, interstitial cystitis, athletic injuries, congestive heart failure, diabetes, cancer, and AIDS. [ii]
Sulfur is becoming more widely appreciated as a significant nutrient, without which many other things won’t work correctly. Surprisingly, a large percentage of the population isn’t getting enough sulfur from their diet anymore. Sulfur plays a crucial role in detoxification, delivery of nutrients, and also in inflammatory related conditions. Sulfur is necessary for the production of one of the most important antioxidants that your body produces: Glutathione. Without sulfur, glutathione is rendered almost useless.
When Should I Start Taking MSM Sulfur?
Immediately! Hopefully, you now understand the urgency of getting a steady supply of MSM into your body, especially in light of the toxic assault we’re all under. Just about everyone will benefit greatly from using MSM sulfur daily because it is a crucial mineral that cannot be made by our bodies and is needed in every cell for proper oxygenation, effective detoxification, and for building healthy cells.
How Do I Take Sulfur Defense?
The amount a person takes or needs can vary on a case by case basis. The general guide is to use one teaspoon (3 grams) twice daily, preferably between meals or on an empty stomach, so nothing interferes with its full utilization in the body. Amounts can be raised or lowered accordingly depending on your state of health and the results you are or aren’t experiencing. Many sulfur promoters recommend gradually building up to higher dosages although we don’t see the need to do that because users get incredible results at the amounts prescribed.
The best way to take our sulfur crystals is to mix them in a small glass of warm water to dissolve the crystals. After that mix in 6-8 ounces of water and consume. It’s important to point out that mixed with water the product has a bitter taste that some people find offensive. If you do not like the taste in water, then it is perfectly acceptable to use juice, herbal tea or coffee to mask the flavor.
How Soon Will I Notice Results?
Since everybody is different, and people’s ailments vary in severity, everyone reacts to organic sulfur at a different rate. Some users dealing with severe discomfort from pain have reported pain relief almost immediately. Others feel a difference within a week while others don’t get results until being on it for a month or longer. Most people notice something positive after just a few days of using MSM the way we recommend, especially people suffering from allergies.
Within a week of using Sulfur Defense one of the first things almost everyone will notice is a healthier tone and shine to their facial complexion. People suffering from serious sinus and allergy problems tend to see a significant improvement, and in some cases complete elimination in less than a week. The simple fact is very few people will say that they don’t notice a benefit from regular use of organic sulfur. In some cases, the benefits could be very dramatic depending on the severity of your health challenges.
Who Can Take Sulfur Defense?
Just about everyone! MSM has been shown to be safe for all people, including children and pregnant women, although we recommend consulting your healthcare provider in these cases to determine suitability. There are no serious reports of sulfur causing any damage or discomfort when taken in the dosage amounts described above. There is over a 30 year history of MSM use showing it to be one of the safest nutrients to ingest even in large quantities without any toxic side effects. No liver damage has been documented due to taking it either.
What If I take Too Much Sulfur?
If you took too much into your body, it would simply be excreted safely through the gastrointestinal system. The most common complaint reported when too much is taken are headaches.
Why Is It Important To Drink Plenty of Water While Using MSM?
Proper hydration is critical since the oxygen for cellular metabolism is present in the water we drink. We use the rule of 64 ounces of water per 100 lbs per day which means a 200 pound person needs 128 ounces of water per day (one gallon). Since everybody is different, and peoples’ ailments vary in severity, everyone reacts to organic sulfur at a different rate. Since sulfur helps to detoxify the body you want to make sure you are properly hydrated so you can quickly flush these cellular wastes from the body.
Why Don’t Most MSM Supplements Work AS Well As Sulfur Defense?
Most MSM supplements come in low dose pills and capsules that contain fillers, binders and excipients that can impede sulfur absorption. A significant percentage of the MSM sulfur on the market is also imported from China. The Chinese use an inferior and cheaper manufacturing process to obtain their crystals. Those who receive the best benefits that sulfur can offer are those who use the pure crystals like we sell mixed in water. There are lots of people who have given MSM supplements a try and haven’t seen the results. Many of them have called us to report that they are getting incredible results now that they are using our pure crystals that they never received before taking a cheap MSM supplement.
Should I Take Anything Else With Sulfur Defense?
As we have outlined in the beginning, we are severely mineral deficient across the board due to factory farming, processed foods, and pesticides. Most people are deficient in all minerals. However, we have never seen reported the kinds of testimonials on any other single mineral alone like we have with sulfur. If money is tight, then start just with sulfur. However, if you want to take your results to the next level incorporating a full spectrum mineral supplement in with it is an excellent way to go. We specifically formulated Living Stones as a complimentary product to use with Sulfur Defense. Our research team designed a state of the art formula that provides a complete full spectrum blend of minerals and trace minerals in the most bioavailable form on the market. Sulfur is a catalyst so using it with other nutrients and minerals makes it work that much better.
Sulfur also makes vitamin C a more potent and effective antioxidant. Most of the research suggests that using a good vitamin C supplement with sulfur is a great thing to do, and it has a very positive effect on the body.
Why Is Sulfur Defense Considered A Superior Source of MSM?
7 Lights Sulfur Defense is guaranteed to be 99.9% pure MSM and is the only MSM material being produced that has GRAS status (generally recognized as safe). It is the cleanest MSM on the market. It is also 100% American made. Most of the MSM on the market is imported from China where quality could be a concern.
The biggest difference with our Sulfur is that it contains absolutely no binders, fillers, flow agents or other ingredients. All of these ingredients may interfere with proper absorption of sulfur in the body. Many overseas manufacturers use a method of crystallization to make their MSM, which is regarded as a sub-par process compared to the four-stage distillation process ours goes through. We use heat to separate our MSM from any impurity that may be present, which gives us the purest product on the market. Rest assured, when you buy Sulfur Defense from 7 Lights you only get the best!
Is Organic Sulfur The Same As Sulfa Drugs and Sulfites? I’m Allergic to Sulfites. Does This Mean I Will Be Allergic to MSM?
Do not get confused between the two. MSM provides organic sulfur and is a nutrient. Sulfa-based drugs, also known as sulfonamides, do not occur naturally and are used as antibiotics. The sulfa molecule is much larger and can cause severe reactions in some individuals. An estimated half-million people are sulfite sensitive in the U.S. Most often they are asthmatic adults and predominantly women. While many people are allergic to sulfa drugs, no similar reactions have ever been reported with MSM. A third sulfur-containing compound, known as sulfites, is a form of preservative that can cause allergic reactions in some individuals. MSM does not contain sulfites, and should not cause a reaction in sulfite-sensitive individuals. The human body produces sulfites in its normal metabolism of sulfur-containing amino acids. Sulfite compounds have been used for more than three hundred years and are considered safe.
Why Is Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) Referred To As Organic Sulfur And Is It Certified Organic?
MSM is the chemical term for “Organic Sulfur” because it contains a biological source of sulfur (34%) that is non-toxic and safe for human use. It is a food grade form of sulfur that works at the cellular level as opposed to inorganic forms of sulfur which are toxic to the body. In chemistry, and as defined by various government health agencies such as NIH and FDA, Methylsulfonylmethane is also referred to as organic sulfur. It’s like calling the chemical H2O by the generic term “water”. It is not “certified organic” from the standpoint of a third party USDA accredited organic certifying agency certifying it as organic. There is no source of MSM on the market that can make that claim so don’t be confused or misled.
What Are The Differences Between Sulfur On The Market and What Should A Consumer Look For?
A significant percentage of MSM on the market is imported from China. As mentioned above, there are two primary methods of obtaining MSM crystals – distillation and crystallization. Distillation is a much better method that produces the purest product. Crystallization is much cheaper, and that is the way most foreign suppliers make their product. There is only one company left that makes a distilled version of MSM. Most supplement companies resort to the cheapest grade of material they can obtain, which is usually the crystallization Chinese versions. While this is not a good reason in and of itself to distrust these sources of MSM, the fact is it is hard to trust entirely what the Chinese produce because they have been busted time and time again for producing inferior, contaminated products.
The other issue with most MSM found on the marketplace is that it is mixed with binders, fillers, and various excipients because it is used in blends with tablets and capsules instead of just being sold as pure crystal with nothing else added. There is ample evidence that shows that these things can interfere with sulfur uptake in the body to some degree.
Does Any MSM or Organic Sulfur Come From Pine Trees?
This is one of the biggest scandals going on the Internet. Some sulfur promoters claim their product comes from Louisiana Pine trees, and this is simply not the case. If you come across any company making this claim, it is a telltale sign that they are lying. What is even more deceptive about the companies making the pine tree claim is that they are most likely selling the cheap Chinese produced MSM.
There is no source of sulfur on the market in any way shape or form that is derived from pine trees. This whole rumor arose because some DMSO was produced many years ago from a paper pulp waste plant in Louisiana. It was never just pine trees; it was a variety of soft wood trees that were used to make paper. However, the world demand for DMSO cannot be met by paper mill waste because DMSO is used extensively in all sorts of industrial applications globally. There has also been a major assault against the wood industry and paper mills due to government regulations that make it impossible to meet the world demand. Obtaining DMSO from paper mill waste is also a much more costly way to go. All of the DMSO in the world today is synthesized through chemical methods. The result doesn’t matter because you are still left with a chemical element called DMSO or Dimethylsulfoxide. DMSO is the starting material used to create organic sulfur crystals.
